ABSTRACT: Lightning is a very recurrent atmospheric phenomenon at low latitudes, between the tropics where it is hotter and more humid. The first studies related to this type of phenomenon were based on the estimation of its occurrence. With the advancement of technology, it was possible to acquire images, through high-speed cameras, of the propagation of these discharges, as well as physical data such as an electric field signal, electric current and x-rays produced by the lightning channel. The lightnings are divided into three types: intracloud, downward and upward, and may also be of positive or negative polarity. The radius analyzed in this work was an upward one, which starts from the ground towards the cloud. This type of discharge occurs less frequently, as it needs very unique situations to be initiated. It only occurs in structures considered tall, always starting from the same point of origin. This work presents the classification of the lightning recorded during the campaign carried out in 2018 and 2021 in the cities of São Paulo and São José dos Campos, where high-speed cameras and electric field sensors were installed near the event site. First, a table was developed containing the type of lightning (intracloud, downward or upward), the polarity (negative or positive) and the time of its occurrence (acquired through a GPS antenna). These data were associated with the ambient electric field signal, so that the occurrence of the electric discharge could be confirmed. Then, using the information from the table and images from the fast camera, preliminary analyzes were made of the behavior of the subsequent return discharges of an upward lightning associated with the variation of the ambient electric field produced by them. These analyzes will assist in the development of research on rising lightning carried out at INPE. |
